Tomorrow is Cyber Monday. For the first time, Cyber Monday is holding just as much importance as Black Friday. Cyber Monday is a sale, like Black Friday, but refers to sales specifically made on the Internet. Last year, Cyber Monday sales hit $1 Billion, and this year sales are perjected to be $1.2 billion. This is a 20% increase and is said to be more of a business sale than Black Friday. The Internet has already been noticed as prominent force in sales, but this Cyber Monday puts the picture even clearer. Even on Black Friday, people purchased their deals on the Internet 35% more than last year. After this week, we will see how the numbers turn out.

It turns out that the Chicago Cubs have hired a new manager, Dave Sveum. Sveum is to replace previous manager Mike Quade. Sveum has had more playing than managing experience, playing as a short-stop for the Milwaukee Brewers for 12 seasons, but the Cubs will hopefully give him a warm welcome nonetheless. There will be a press conference held tomorrow in Chicago at Wrigley Field to introduce him as the new manager. -NB 11/17/11
Reported today, there has been a shooting at the White House where one man, Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez, has been arrested. Secret Service announced Wednesday that the man was arrested in Pennsylvania. Reports say two bullets were fired, one hitting a bulletproof window and one hitting the exterior of the White House. Secret Service reports say, "A round was stopped by ballistic glass behind the historic exterior glass. One additional round has been found on the exterior of the White House. This damage has not been conclusively connected to Friday's incident, and an assessment of the exterior of the White House is ongoing." Ortega is still just a suspect, and no one was reportedly injured in the shooting. -NB 11/16/11
In NYC a judge has ruled that protectors who are mostly there for Occupy Wall Street must evacuate Zuccotti Park, saying that their first amendment does not entitle them to stay camped in the street. Judge Michael Stallman ordered the eviction, and police moved out the protestors Tuesday morning. Mayor Bloomberg said this was important because living conditions were becoming horrendous in the plaza.
This Monday, NBC announced that Chelsea Clinton will be a full time news reporter. She will begin working on a part of the "Making a Difference" series. Ms. Clinton says that she hopes through her work at "Making a Difference" she will live up to her grandmother's words, "Life is not about what happens to you, but about what you do with what happens to you." She will start immediately at NBC and will also continue her studies at Oxford and Non-profit work with the Clinton Foundation.
Evelyn H. Launder, founder of Pink Ribbon Cancer Awareness, died today from a non-genetic ovarian cancer. She was 75. Launder started out her foundation at first as a small campaign handing out pink bows at her department store to make women more aware of cancer. It eventually evolved gaining over $330 million in donations and having congress name october as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. -NB 11/13/11
Yesterday, on 11/11/11, Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kim Zolciak had her wedding with Atlanta Falcons player Kroy Bierrmann. The couple tried not to let the news out, but many news reporters showed up for the story. Regardless, Zolciak seemed to be in good spirits, saying "“Beautiful weather! Beautiful day! I’m walking on a cloud and I’m so grateful,”just before she walked down the aisle. The couple has one child already, and Zolciak has 2 from her previous marriage. -NB 11/12/11
It may seem like a conflict of interests, but Buffalo Bills' wide receiver David Nelson has recently been reported to be dating a cheerleader from the Dallas Cowboys. If Nelson were to score, his girlfriend would have to "boo," and if he missed a catch, she would have to cheer. Regardless, the two are said to be dating. Nelson told buffalobills.com that “She works for the Dallas Cowboys and roots for the Dallas Cowboys, but I know she’ll have some inside joy if I do well.”
